Amandla Wellness Center: Empowering Black Women's Health Through Holistic Telemedicine

Amandla Wellness Center, founded by Dr. Margaret Lott, offers a unique approach to primary care, focusing on the holistic well-being of Black women. Inspired by family health struggles and her own journey to wellness, Dr. Lott established a virtual telemedicine practice that addresses common health concerns like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension. The center provides comprehensive care, including annual wellness exams, lab orders, and personalized counseling on diet and lifestyle changes – a departure from traditional medical school's limited focus on these areas.
Amandla Wellness Center distinguishes itself through a direct primary care membership model, ensuring patients have frequent access to Dr. Lott for extended appointments. This model promotes closer monitoring and direct communication with the physician, unlike traditional practices. The name "Amandla," meaning "power" in Swahili, reflects the center's mission to empower Black women, often caregivers for others, to prioritize their own health and well-being. Dr. Lott emphasizes the importance of becoming "warriors for our own wellness."
While based in Florida, Amandla Wellness Center's reach extends beyond the state through an active online community. A private Facebook group and YouTube channel provide educational content, support, and resources to a broader audience. Future plans include developing educational programs to enhance health literacy. The center's commitment to holistic care and empowering Black women makes it a valuable resource for improving health outcomes within the community.
